That’s So Drew
By: Alexis Washington
Some people are born to be stars; that’s the only way to explain a quadruple threat like Drew Sidora.
The actress, producer, singer/songwriter and dancer is poised to move from the movie set to the concert stage now that she’s signed with mega independent label Slip-N-Slide Records to become the its first R&B act to join a roster of platinum selling hip-hop artists, including Plies, Trina and Rick Ross.
“Slip-N-Slide is expanding,” explains Drew. “The label has seen 15 years of success and they’re looking to expand into R&B and pop. That’s where I come in. They have only a few artists, so it has a family feel and I know the label will give me the focus and attention I need.”
Most fans recognize Drew from the CW hit series “The Game,” where she guest-starred as herself, as well as on Disney’s hit show “That’s So Raven” and The WB’s “The O’Keefe’s.” And with roles in hit movies such as White Chicks, Never Die Alone, Wild Hogs, Madea Goes to Jail and Step Up, Drew has acting credits to rival any young star in Hollywood.
The Suzuki method trained pianist was signed to Babyface Entertainment and started writing for Edmonds Publishing as a teenager. Drew let the world know she was serious about music when she contributed two songs to the soundtrack for Step Up, Till the Dawn and Slow it Down.
“I’ve always done music. When I’m on set, I’m in my trailer with my laptop, my Pro Tools and my mic doing songs,” says Sidora. “You spend most of your day on set in a trailer and shoot for about an hour. I spend a lot of time doing my music… I have more than 60 songs in my catalog.”
Drew is currently working on her Slip-N-Slide debut with her label mates and numerous A-list producers, including Rodney “Darkchild” Jenkins, Lamb (who produced Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need You Bad” and Keyshia Cole’s “Let it Go”), Ne-Yo and Missy Elliott.
