Fashion & Style According to Monique Calhoun
Sole chatted with former America’s Next Top Model contestant, now professional model/actress Monique Calhoun to find out what’s hot or not in beauty and fashion, as well as tips for taking making you’re your Facebook or MySpace pictures look sexy.
The Chicago native has worked with an array of industry greats, including Giorgio Armani, Alberta Feretti, L’Oreal Paris and Ed Hardy. Monica has also been featured in numerous major network productions for TV Guide, HBO, MTV, and Style. Her face has also become synonymous with luxury and beauty brands, such as BeBe, L.A.M.B., Baby Phat, and Guess.
SOLE: Best Fashion Tip Ever
MC: Tape up saggy boobs!
S: Weirdest Beauty Tip Ever
MC: Wash or condition your hair with mayonnaise. It works, but I refuse to walk around smelling like mayo!
S: Favorite Shoe Designer
MC: Christian Louboutins are my absolute favorite!
S: Must-Have Accessories
MC: Sunglasses are standard, but I’d say stud earrings and bracelets are too. Love them! Accessories overall aren’t that important to me. I feel less is best.
S: Essential Fashion Pieces
MC: Designer handbags, designer heels and a sexy dress; every girl should always have one good dress.
S: Least Favorite Trend
MC: Belts, I’m so over them. Wearing a belt too tight to show the impression of a booty is a no-no for me. Especially low waist jeans; you buy jeans to fit and I think that only men should wear belts to fit. Belts around the stomach are fine, but not all the time and not with all colors. Be subtle. No more matching earrings with your purse, shoes and belt. I wonder where people find all those bright colors. Stick to the basics.
S: Best Place to Shop for Inexpensive Clothing
MC: I suggest outlets; they aren’t specific to just one city.
S: When I get older and settled…
MC: I would love to dress like Iman. Classic!
S: Michelle Obama’s style…
MC: I think Michelle Obama’s style is appropriate for a president’s wife. She doesn’t need to be too sexy and too crazy. A lot of Chicago natives say she needs to dress this way or that way. I think she does have a lot of fashion sense and style, but to be acceptable to all types of people, she has to be subtle. She doesn’t give you too much, it’s just enough. I think it is amazing that she can use a lot of colors, but remain sophisticated and conservative.
S: Modelesque pictures for Facebook and MySpace…
MC: Rule number one is never do the ghetto hand-on-your-leg pose! It’s not cute. What you want to do is focus on having a sexy face. Do close-up shots instead of full body shots.
