L’M – Chicago’s Newest Musical Son

L_M
There must be something in the water in Chicago. In the past decade, some of the biggest hits have sprung from the Windy City’s native musical sons and daughters, including Kanye West, Common, Jennifer Hudson and the oh-so controversial R. Kelly, just to name a few. Trying to add his name to the list is an unsigned artist by the name of L’M.

The 21 year-old singer/songwriter has all of the goods to make it big. Born Lendell Jones II, LiL’ Mann was influenced at a young age. Present to the sound of his parents’ ideal music, he tuned his ear to artists like: Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Ronald Isley, and Michael Jackson. He then started to listen to those particular artists on his own and practice in front of family. Paying very close attention to his singing, his mom felt that it was time to take it to the next level.

People are already compelled to listen to this creative, diverse young man and his music; he’s sincere and sings with passion. He’s also living proof that there are still true singers who make records about real-life experiences. He sings about love and relationships with maturity beyond his years yet still remaining fresh, responsible and reflective.

He has already opened up for Trey Songz, Ronald Isley & The Isley Brothers, Sammie and Soulja Boy.

Sole asked L’M about his music and where things are headed for him.

SOLE: Favorite Songwriters?
~ Ne-Yo
~ The Dream
~ Robin Thicke
~ Brian Michael-Cox
~ R. Kelly
~ Blaze (of Chicago)

What’s missing in the R&B game? “Emotion, today’s artists don’t emote like the older artists used to. Today’s R&B is not heartfelt. Maxwell is the perfect example of what an R&B artist should be. He sings with passion. Songs need storylines and substance.”

Best industry match for your musical style? (Production wise)
Chicago’s Blaze is pretty much a match. His musical vision matches mine. Mainstream wise I would have to say B. Cox.

How many songs have your written?
Well over 200. I have enough music for three or four albums.

Musical goals?
I put a lot of time into music, it’s not a hobby. I treat it as a gift that God blessed we with. I try to nurture it as much as I can. I take it very seriously. It’s an everyday thing, day in-day out. I want to be able to be heard internationally. Touch and inspire people all over the world with my music. I just want to help people with their lives with music.

These tracks will be available for download on iTunes in January 2010.

Finally a fresh, new voice from a gifted young artist! I’ve been aware of L’M since he was little. However, having worked with kid acts and watching them implode after the spotlight faded on them during puberty, I always kept my fingers crossed for this little guy . . . who, by the way has obviously matured into a magnificent recording artist. When Ron Simmons, a mutual friend, sent L’M’s record, “It’s My Turn,” I was sold! I immediately programmed it into our web station, KDME-Renegade Radio’s playlist. Listeners throughout the world have echoed my enthusiasm. I often tell young artists that I’m content to watch them from home on television when they receive their industry awards. But I think when the time comes, and it will be sooner than anyone thinks . . . I’ll be right in the audience when L’M receives his. Bravo L’M! Keep up the good work!
